“Received the book this day, “Hyper Paranoia.” I sat down and read the whole thing, with a short nap in the middle… Thought it was pretty good, both conceptually and in the visual execution. My compliments to Mr. Farkas. As a hyper paranoid person myself, I believe it’s entirely possible that this is actually close to what is really going on with us humans, except that, well, singing has no effect on “THEM.” Music is something we do to console ourselves. Positive sounds, melody, harmony, uplifted voices, both human and instrumental, resonate strongly with us humans, and even with the other mammals. But now look, “THEY” are even robbing us of our music. They are trying to take THAT away from us now, and give us back an ersatz, harsh, discordant, apocalyptic, alienating kind of “McMusic.” When I’m forced to listen to this obnoxious noise it makes me feel that we are culturally LOST, DOOMED.
Because I know how music USED to sound when it was a true expression of common people, before “they” took hold of it, those cold-blooded mother fuckers. There are still pockets of genuine human music here and there in the world. When I hear it my spirits are uplifted, but it’s rare.
In more sensible moments of reflection I think it’s all just US, the dark side of our own natures, that cause all our problems; our bloodlust, our greed, our money madness, our narcissism and arrogance as a race, and even our wild, free-floating IMAGINATIONS, which get us into so much trouble, our paranoia itself. Though sometimes I think most people aren’t paranoid ENOUGH. People should be a little more suspicious, a little more PARANOID, if you will.
Obviously, you put a lot of pre-thought into your story: the alpha-male general, the Wall Street asshole, the science girl, the angry feminist, the social justice warrior, the artist-dreamer who thinks singing will save us. And in your story, it DOES. The last scene reminds me of the “ghost dance,” the last hope of the American Indians, as described in “Black Elk Speaks.” They really believed that this dancing and chanting would save them. This was in the 1890s. It came to an abrupt end with the massacre at Wounded Knee. They were crushed. It was over for them as a proud, free people. Techno-civilization won the day, and continues to win. Eventually, perhaps, it will decide that the human race itself must go. What recourse will we have left at that point, when we have put ourselves totally in the hands of artificial intelligence? Singing? I don’t think so. We won’t know HOW to sing anymore.”

“In his 2012 documentary, The Hidden Hand: Alien Contact and the Government Cover-Up, James Carman revealed himself to be a keen observer who sees people and events more deeply than most. This skill is on full display in HyperParanøid. James’ writing is deft and agile, and in Jaf Farkas, he found a skilled illustrator to express his complex ideas of freedom.
James’ storytelling evolves through layers of insinuation, then BAM, suddenly cuts to the core. A few potent images replace dozens of speech balloons, shifting the mood to evoke the deep, mysterious darkness of Ephesians 6:12.
Such a warning motivates the multidimensional efforts of the story’s heroine, LC. She expands the idea of an alien threat into a growing realization that powerful Entities exist beyond our 3D universe. She remarks: “The Eon Breeders live in a dimension on the cusp of ours.” The Eon Breeders live for millions of years. One of Earth’s centuries is a day for them.
Even though these highly “evolved” beings created humanity and taught Homo sapiens to plant wheat, worship, raise livestock and wage war, they disdain humans, because they foresee we could eventually create solar weapons and time travel. In the words of LC, “That’s why they are afraid of us.”
HyperParanøid raises an alarm: being oblivious to manipulative extra-dimensional intelligences threatens Earth-bound humans who have no means of defense. This prophetic book demonstrates the need to overcome the abuse of being kept dumb and blind under totalitarian control. HyperParanøid is a door to freedom. It invites a renaissance of the human spirit. Self-empowerment enables us to climb to higher levels of truth and consciousness.”

“An oddly optimistic dystopian minimalist graphic novel with complicated ideas. James writes about the universe with a few words, a few lines, and a few colors. This book is complicated simplicity in the best way possible. Check it out.”
“Doses of Jodorowsky, Moebius, Fantastic Planet, Stephen King, and indy comics from the 90’s. This book is familiar … and yet, it’s totally original. Great stuff.
“Like a great chef, James Carman mixes simple ingredients into a rich full meal. Take a seat and chow down.”
“Surreal science fiction in the best way possible.”

“Hyperparanoid,” is a funny and inventive new graphic novel written by James Carman and illustrated by Jaf Farkas, is, like most futuristic, dystopian sci-fi fantasies, a stark interpretation of the world we already live in. Using the familiar science fiction narrative device of a group of diverse strangers finding themselves trapped together in an alien sphere, the comic book story presents, in a sense, a Pirandelian tale: six characters in search of an author. Each character represents a racial or sexual stereotype, but their identities become amusingly fluid and interchangeable, and ultimately polyamorously perverse, united spiritually and sexually in their quest to escape the mind control of the aliens who have imprisoned them together in a prison of their own thought-projections. Mr. Carman’s hysterical humor enhances the absurdities of the scenario, with Mr. Farkas’s playful images gamely interpreting the author’s vision.”
Bruce LaBruce – Award-Winning Director
“In a post-apocalyptic universe, humanity is trapped in time bubbles by the Eon Breeders, aliens at the controls of an endless and cruel simulation game. After having plundered all the resources of the Solar System, the Eon Breeders now seek to destroy the human survivors by testing their last abilities. LC, a young hybrid who looks a lot like the Sophia of the ancient Gnostic texts of Egypt, possesses the power to reunite and free the human from the mortal trap in which they unknowingly find themselves. Time is running out for them…
James Carman creates a multi-faceted myth that recalls the workings of the global elite, itself commanded by an invisible “non-human” hierarchy hungry for totalitarian power, blood and terror. More than just a sci-fi comic, HyperParanøid by James Carman and Jaf Farkas warns us about a reality that only a few insiders know about today… but which humanity will have to understand and combat in the near future. HyperParanøid is an unparalleled and realistic work. A must!”
Anton Parks – Best-Selling Author of Eden, The Sumerian Genesis and The Ğirkù Chronicles.

“HyperParanøid’s central metaphor of the playground, deftly explores humanity’s exploits in the playground of consciousness. Humans often allow misfortune and oppression to control their lives. These life obstacles provide an impetus for us to “dream a different dream”, one with grace, humor and innovation. James Carman’s literary tour-de-force invites us to activate our higher potential by creating positive change through love and cooperation. We are invited to awaken to the heavenly realms surrounding us. We are invited to open our hearts and sing.”

“In a stark, dystopian future where central control is cruelly imposed, James Carman’s “HyperParanøid” offers a refreshing perspective. It suggests we can steer our own ives and create systems of freedom beyond hierarchical dominance. We create a yes where a no used to be. We open a door where a portal was walled shut. We sing a song to awaken a world gone mute. A humorous, sci-fi scream.”

“The book is excellently illustrated and colorfully expressed – reads light like a feather on a breeze, boasting a rich vocabulary (at times riding on sharp murky humor).
An untamed horse to definitely saddle. Would not miss this book for the freshness it brings to a world of ethical/moral decline, helping free humanity from cages they like. Grounding carnal truth in a manner which instantly heals ..and shifts the paradigm.
6 stars out of 5 for me. Well done “Battalion Hyperparanoid!”
